Tucson Soccer teams started the fall competitive like they ended the spring – doing very well on the field and having an impact on competition.

          No team did better than the TSA Boys U18 team that went 5-0-2 in the Far West Regional League, finishing first among eight teams. It finished with 17 total points, just beating Cisco 92 Black for the title.

          “The accomplishments of our 92 BR team are truly remarkable,’’ said coach Wolfgang Weber. “This is a special group of players which only comes along every so often and all of us at TSA are proud that they will represent Arizona at the next regional tournament in June of 2010 in Albuquerque.’’

          The 92 Boys also won the Arizona State League by going 8-1-1, easily outdistancing second-place San Tan.

          Weber was quick to point out that Jon Pearlman “was responsible for the development of this group at the U15, U16 and & U17 levels and this season’s success is rooted in the excellent work he has done in the past three years.’’

          The team is led by Danny Toia, who led the FWRL in scoring (eight goals). He also led the Arizona State League in scoring (16 goals).

          “Every 10 years or so, a player of Danny Toia’s caliber will come along,’’ Weber said. “He’s TSA’s first Youth National team player and in a real positive sense the ‘heart and soul’ of our team.’’

          Weber added “our back four is one of the very best group of defenders in youth soccer I have seen in some time and our collective defensive effort has been the foundation of our success this season.’’

          Keeper Daniel Bacon allowed just 0.76 goals per game on average.
